Life Transitions Therapy

Has A Difficult Life Transition Left You Feeling Lost, Confused, And Hopeless?

Do you feel like your world has been turned upside down by something out of your control?

Are you feeling too stuck to move forward?

When you look into your future, do you feel despair and lack of hope?

Maybe you’re going through a breakup or divorce, having a career change, or adjusting to life with a new diagnosis. Your life transition could make you question everything you thought you knew and shake up your sense of identity and life purpose. You might be experiencing anxiety, depression, and feelings of self-doubt.

On the other hand, perhaps your life transition is exciting – you recently fell in love, got married, had a new baby, or switched to a more fulfilling career. Even these transitions can cause you to question your life and bring up uncomfortable feelings of uncertainty. You might consider therapy to help you with your life transition.

You Might Find It Hard To See Opportunities For Growth In Your Struggles

During times of transition, it’s natural to feel like the world is passing you by, like you’re watching from the sidelines. You might feel stuck in a relationship or career and wonder if you’ll ever be able to move forward. As a result, you might be filled with feelings of resignation.

If this is how you feel, I encourage you not to despair! As a therapist who works with people going through life transitions, I believe we all have an inherent capacity for resilience and adaptation. I want to empower you to address your challenges in healthy ways. Feeling stuck doesn’t have to mean a door is closing – together, we can open that door and explore the unknown contents within, allowing you to embrace change and discover new opportunities for growth.

We All Go Through Times of Self-Doubt and Uncertainty

This is an intrinsic part of who we are. When self-doubt and uncertainty strike, it is natural to worry that everyone else’s life is on track while only our own is going off the rails. When this happens, we question ourselves and obsess over our shortcomings.

The truth is that struggling is an inevitable part of life. It happens to all of us sooner or later. In fact, there is wisdom to be learned in accepting our challenges and focusing on working through them instead of exhausting our energy trying to resist them.

Therapy Can Help You Find Meaning In The Midst Of Stressful Life Transitions

Each crisis we face gives us a chance to turn our attention inward. We can reflect on who we are, what we want, and what is holding us back. A compassionate approach to counseling helps you engage in this process in a healthy way. You can feel more thoughtful and even philosophical. You can begin to feel an improved quality of life where you are moving toward a brighter, more hopeful future.

I seek to create a warm and accepting therapeutic space that is free of judgment. You can explore and assess what gives your life meaning. In the face of a difficult life transition such as a breakup, career change, or chronic illness, counseling can help you lean into this time of transition and create an enriching life filled with meaning and strength.

What To Expect In Life Transitions Therapy Sessions

In our first session, I will listen to your story so that I can understand what is important to you. Knowing where you’re at and what you're looking for will help us come up with a plan of goals and objectives. This will inform our work and give a sense of direction and purpose for our time together.

Think of goals as the broad-brush strokes describing what you want your world to look like at the end of our process. And think of the objectives as what helps us get there. Then, with a solution-focused approach, I can help you take achievable steps towards your goals and successfully face the obstacles in your path.

I also like to take a narrative approach to therapy, examining the unhealthy stories you tell yourself about your life. For instance, maybe you tell yourself, “I feel powerless because life is changing all around me and I feel left behind.” I can help you loosen this story’s grip so that you view your situation in a more empowering light. You’ll learn to see yourself as an agent in your own story instead of a bystander.

In this way, counseling can help you improve your confidence as you navigate your life transitions and journey toward a better tomorrow.
